The Portes du Soleil

Les Gets is one of the principle villages in the Portes du Soleil area. The Portes du Soleil is a region of the Alps situated between Mont Blanc in the south and Lake Geneva in the north. The region extends to about 400 square miles (1036 sq km) over France and Switzerland and comprises 13 main villages.

The villages are: Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets, Chatel, Morgins, Les Crosets, Montriond, Abondance, La Chapelle d'Abondance, St Jean D'Aulps, Champery, Val d'Illiez, and Torgon.

The region offers winter and summer leisure facilities. In winter, there are about 650km of marked ski runs with about 230 lifts, spread over 14 valleys. The top elevation is about 2350m and the base elevation about 1000m. There are about 694 snow cannons that top up the snow when nature lets it get thin. In summer, some of these lifts are converted for carrying cycles. The valleys provide a beautiful backdrop for walking with many marked paths. Many other activities include white water rafting and paraponting.
